By transforming our linear economy to a circular model, we can reduce our climate footprint, conduct business, and create a long-term sustainable society for all. As the only Nordic example, Umeå was part of an OECD study on the circular economy in cities and regions in 2019-2020. 120 different stakeholders participated in the project, which resulted in a report with 18 recommendations for further work. Find the report here.
We collaborate with international organizations such as ICLEI and the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, while continually looking for new interesting collaborations and projects where we can unite to change our society in a circular way.
Umeå has also signed the European Circular Cities Declaration, a commitment to create a resource-efficient, circular and socially responsible society.
This is what we do
- Map circular initiatives in the Umeå region
- Develop methods for circular procurement
- Collaborate with CEBANS – Circular Economy Business Accelerator North Sweden
